♦ POSITION AVAILABLE - Buyer

Job Purpose: Plan, direct, coordinate and negotiate the procurement of goods, materials and supplies while protecting the company’s interests.   Minimizes costs and maximizes ROI through optimal combination of price, quality and delivery of inventory goods.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct purchasing activities for designated transfer, domestic or international vendors.
  • Review and maintenance of all setup in ERP system and purchasing software to insure timely and accurate purchase orders.
  • Execute proactive inventory management activities to maximize company fill rates to customers in all centers while reducing overstock inventory, return of non-productive inventory and increasing inventory turns.
  • Analyze sales trends to insure accurate forecasts to maintain appropriate inventory levels.
  • Compiles and analyzes statistical data to evaluate cost/risk conditions and develop improvement strategies.
  • Partners with internal customers to resolve material availability or quality concerns and develop long term strategies for Supply Chain optimization.
  • Identifies and leads cost savings projects to support department objectives.
  • Support implementation of policies and procedures consistent with objectives of the purchasing department.
  • Evaluate suppliers to assure on time deliveries in correct quantities.
  • Preparation for and participation in regularly scheduled purchasing and vendor meetings.
  • Participate in cost control management and consistently look for ways to improve our bottom line (better vendor terms, prices, volume rebates, freight allowances, etc.) and aid in improving our overall level of service to our customers.
  • Maintain records, reports and files for part/vendor content in our ERP and purchasing systems.

Qualifications, Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in procurement of goods, materials and supplies.
  • Strong understanding of sales, marketing and operations in a distribution company.
  • Strong analytical, auditing and research skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service focus.
  • Understanding of procurement policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Ability to maintain composure in high stress situations with suppliers, peers and internal customers.
  • Microsoft Office application experience a must.
  • Detail oriented and organized in work.
  • Ability to meet assigned deadlines.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving and results.
  • Proactive and independent.
  • Flexible and enthusiastic.
  • Experience with Rocky Soft purchasing a plus, Epicor ERP system desirable.

♦ POSITION AVAILABLE - Sales Account Manager, Pompano Beach, FL

Hawthorne Gardening Company a Vancouver, WA based manufacturer of lighting fixtures and national distributor of specialty gardening supplies is currently accepting resumes for a Sales Account Manager in our Pompano, FL distribution center. We offer excellent compensation and benefit plans. 

Job Purpose: Service and grow customer base in assigned territory.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Visit all customers (retail hydroponic stores) on a regular basis. See “key” customers minimum of every 6-8 weeks or sooner and other as directed by supervisor.
  • The geographic area of responsibility is the S.E Region (AL, FL, GA, NC, PR, SC and MS) this territory is subject to change.
  • Follow the 80/20+ “targets” rule to manage daily activities. Spend the majority of time on “key” and “target” customers to grow the assigned territory.
  • Sell all products offered to customers by demonstrating the benefits of our products vs. the competition. Introduce and place new and/or exclusive products providing appropriate and approved samples.
  • Provide technical information, conduct training sessions with store staff members and provide exceptional service and support.
  • Learn and demonstrate proficiency with Epicor software, Infoview (sales reporting) Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Demonstrate regular sales increases in your territory and meet or exceed provided sales targets.
  • Must quickly develop extensive product knowledge.
  • Appropriately qualify new accounts in your territory.
  • Provide all needed marketing and support materials to retailers.
  • Have regular communications with stores regarding service related issues. This might include ship dates, back orders & possible substitute items, defective product support, RMA’s, etc.
  • Travel to select trade shows to represent Hawthorne Gardening Company. /National Garden Wholesale and the products we carry.
  • Provide weekly call reports, recapping your activities and successes for the week to the sales director.
  • Responsible for selling discontinued, dead stock or overstock inventory.
  • Provide appropriate and regular training to the warehouse staff at the warehouse you are assigned to.
  • Must be able to perform job duties without restrictions.
  • Must timely manage expense reports and submitted as directed.
  • Accountable to provide timely and accurate product and market information, sales forecasts, etc.
  • Must be able to work occasional weekends for store grand openings, trade shows, customer appreciation days, etc.

Qualifications, Education and Experience:

  • Four plus years of experience with industry related experience preferable.
  • Must have excellent oral expression and comprehension.
  • Must have proven ability of using principles and methods for sales, marketing, customer service and personal service.
  • Skilled with handling and diffusing tense issues.
  • Able to multi-task in a faced paced environment.
  •  Must be detail oriented and organized with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have strong management skills and be a “team player”. Strong computer skills a must.

Environment: This position requires periods of walking and standing.  Ability to sit for long periods in a vehicle and at a desk is expected. Occasional bending, squatting, twisting, turning and reaching. Will lift, push or pull more than 50 lbs. throughout the day, loading and unloading products.
